Everybody’s talking about making money with astrology

This article by Dave Roell at the Astrology Center of America (great resource for books, by the way) makes it all sound so easy.
All I have to say is, if I could master the lost object horary chart alone, I could name my price.

Hi. Don’t set your sights so high!! Lost and found are amongst THE most difficult horaries to decipher. I studied with John Frawley and he freely admitted that lost and found questions often baffled him too. Start with simple stuff. Have I got time to slip to the shop before my friend arrives? Will that woman who left a message about a consult actually ring back? The sort of stuff you can test yourself with. Forget about money – certainly in the beginning (and beginning with horary is about four to five years I hasten to add) and just get on to the learning curve ….:-)

I was hoping that article was totally tongue-in-cheek sarcasm. I mean, I know I cannot expect everyone to approach astrology as the first branch of a spiritual discipline (magia and alchymia to follow), but geez, do we have to throw common sense out the window? Can you imagine an article that starts: “So, you’ve finished watching all of season 1 of Judge Judy on DVD, and now you want to be a distinguished member of the judicial bench. You’re not the first. Here’s some useful advice: (1) Force litigants to settle complex cases, even if they don’t want to. Less analytical thinking, and more time on the golf course for you. . . “. Yadda, yadda, yadda. I don’t know…call me crazy…but I think that a mind bent toward materialism will always fail to grasp the greater purposes of astrology. xx your opinionated Scorpio friend

Yuzuru – agreed, apparently they do. Maybe Roell’s article will inspire a new crop of would-be horary astrologers… heh.
Elizabeth – thanks for stopping by! But, you know what they say about setting your sights high… “Shoot for the moon. Even if you fail, you’ll land among the stars.”
Antonio – wait a sec. So my devotion to Judge Judy *doesn’t* qualify me to hear trials? *looks left* *looks right* Oopsie…
No, what you say is true. Pursuing astrology for the sake of lucre alone must go astray. I am grateful that I have the day job – that the wolf is NOT at the door and that I can study astro for the love of it. Just in the last two weeks I’ve seen many articles in the astro-blogosphere about how to make money from astro – and now with Roell’s article, I wonder how many readers won’t catch the sarcasm. I can be gullible, I know, but I thought he was being somewhat serious.

Wait, Dave was sarcastic?
*eats another bite of uber-expensive caviar paid for by grateful horary clients, while typing on solid gold computer*
The only astrologer I know of who made a killing from his profession was the late Patric Walker, whose daily horoscope column was syndicated worldwide.
